CBD FOR INJURY RECOVERY

CBD FOR INJURY RECOVERY

By Dr. Pooja Manchanda, DC, CCSP®

I am a sports chiropractor and a sports enthusiast who loves watching athletes play, move and recover from injuries. Recently, I have been observing an ultimate frisbee league and have become curious about how CBD can help athletes overcome their injuries.

The most common injuries in sports include sprains, strains, tendinitis, and muscle soreness. CBD can be helpful in managing these injuries as it reduces pain and inflammation, which can speed up the recovery process. Furthermore, CBD can help with concussions by reducing inflammation in the brain, which can improve recovery time and reduce symptoms like headaches and dizziness.

I use topical CBD products in my practice to aid in my treatments of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization and trigger point releases. These products can be applied directly to the affected area, providing targeted relief. Many of my patients and athletes also use CBD products as part of their broader approach to wellness and recovery to recover faster from their injuries, leading to better performance on the field.

CBD products are generally safe and well-tolerated, making them an attractive option for athletes who may be reluctant to take prescription pain medications or other treatments that can have unwanted side effects or negatively affect their athletic abilities. CBD is non-addictive and does not produce a "high" like THC, so it is generally safe for athletes to use without fear of impairment.

In summary, CBD can be a safe and effective way to manage pain and inflammation in sports-related injuries. It promotes recovery and enhances overall wellness, leading to better performance on the field. However, it is essential to discuss the use of CBD products with your healthcare team before starting any new treatment.
